GROENE VINGERS – MIRTHE DOKTER | POLLIF PROJECTS
Can you believe that it will grow, small and unbelievable as a mustard seed? Everything starts small. A seed, a child, an idea, a concern, a dream.
What is growing inside you?
A plant can tell us something about who we are, about our family, about where we come from. If we could capture all the people in the square in plants, it would be a beautiful and diverse garden. Full of light green cuttings, tropical plants with fruits, shady trees, germinating seeds and fertile soil.
With many green fingers, we are building a spontaneous garden of stories about the people who care for it. Together we are creating the herbarium of the square. We garden, draw, sing, drink tea and describe the plants and the people who are dear to us. What would you like to teach us about the plants you know? Leave your green mark in the herbarium, follow in the footsteps of an herbalist, make a print of a plant on paper, and come help us germinate.
Come by and plant your own seedling!
★ More about the artist: Mirthe Dokter is a transdisciplinary artist in Saint-Gilles who develops participatory and ecological art projects through her organisation Pollif Projects. Mirthe is creating a tailor-made project for Square Jacques Franckplein in Saint-Gilles. After a first year with the project Ta trace – Laat zien dat jij er was (Show that you were there), in 2024, she will continue to build on the connections and stories from the neighbourhood in 2025. Based on the context of the neighbourhood, a preliminary project was set up in collaboration with PCS Franck, a local project focusing on social cohesion. Gardening and planting are a stepping stone to connectedness and caring for the square and its residents together.
